
The wire mesh or metal foil that surrounds the conductors of the shielded (STP) Cat6 cable is the only distinction between it and the unshielded (UTP) Cat6 cable. The UTP cables just use twisted pairs of cable conductors and cable insulation; they do not have this extra protection against EMI and crosstalk.
In a nutshell, CAT6 is backwards compatible with CAT5.

Cat6 lacks insulation and depends on the inherent twisting of its copper wires to eliminate electromagnetic interference (EMI) between pairs. To increase signal quality, Cat7 adds unique shielding around each twisted pair to ward against EMI and crosstalk.
STP cables significantly lessen crosstalk when they are installed and maintained correctly. In other words, they prevent signals from accidentally entering adjacent wires by obstructing their passage through the outer covering. However, UTP wiring only provides rudimentary security.
Shielded Cat5e and other cables have the primary benefit of shielding the inner cores from electrical interference. They also offer protection against all forms of electromagnetic interference, or EMI. Electrical interference, or EMI, is something that exists naturally outside of your cabling arrangement and in the outside environment.
Because Cat8 cables are easier to install and support PoE technology, server rooms can have more space. Even for gaming, Cat6a cable is more than adequate for household equipment, while Cat8 cable can be expensive and unnecessary for the majority of uses.
Speed: As was previously said, 100 Mbps is the maximum LAN speed that Fast Ethernet can deliver. In comparison, Gigabit Ethernet can offer 1000 Mbps, which is ten times faster than Fast Ethernet.
